ebAWIS Evening Hike in Berkeley Tuesday July 2nd

Join us to hike and network! Amazing bay views!
Tuesday, July 2, 6:30 pm to ~ 8 pm
Claremont Canyon Regional Preserve

Where to meet: Meet at corner of Derby St. and Belrose Av in Berkeley (near Clark Kerr campus). Free street parking will likely be available on Derby. Look for Violet who will be wearing a teal AWIS shirt near the barricades to Tanglewood Road.

About the Hike: ~1 hour, 1.6 miles total (with optional 30 min extension), out and back. Moderate level. Wear sturdy shoes for uneven terrain and some sections of loose rock. Some sections are steep but no scrambling is required. The first ~25 minutes (0.75 miles) is all uphill but with many overlook stops. Because this is out and back, if you want to stay and rest at the benches or start a little late, we will meet up with you on the way back down. We will follow the wide fire trail so we will have room for conversation and won't be brushing against poison oak. Mostly sun, some shade.

Route: From the barricades, we will head up Tanglewood Path to the left, a shady paved sidewalk along houses. Then pass gate with the "Claremont Canyon Regional Preserve" sign and maps. Continue 0.75 miles, always choosing the wide trail at any possible intersection (although not many options). When you get to the paved road at 0.75 miles, go right onto the paved road for a short bit. We will likely turn back here, unless there is interest in going a little further to see some pines and wooded valleys and cottontail rabbits.
