The Association for Women in Science (AWIS) San Diego is proud to host our 2nd Annual, Science, Technology, Engineering & Mathematics (STEM) Conference for Junior and Senior High School and Community College level young women on February 10th, 2018 at San Diego State University.
The event begins with breakfast and an introduction to networking (a common theme of the event) followed by an engaging and inspiring keynote address for those who DARE to DREAM. The event mirrors a scientific conference with a focus on peer mentorship and includes a speed mentoring session with leaders in Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics, interactive STEM workshops, Career Map workshops, an informal networking luncheon, and a fun photo booth. The event culminates in an opportunity ceremony, where we will present field specific internships, mentorships and swag gifts to a select number of students from our participant drawing.
The event also provides visibility and an opportunity to share insight for women with current roles in STEM, who act as photographers, designers, conference speed mentors, workshop hosts, and volunteers and whose photos and bios appear in our event program. If you are interested in sharing your unique skill set and journey of DARING TO DREAM by inspiring the next generation of female STEM leaders, please visit our conference registration page!   The links to each individual registration page are listed below.

  • Student Attendees - the event is specifically targeted for Junior and Senior High School and Community College-level young women, although young men are also welcome. Early Registration is advised. Last year's event was sold out by late January.
  • Panelists/Speed Mentors - women in STEM careers talk about their career path in a panel/forum or in a rotating, "speed networking" setting providing the girls with advice and exposure to different careers in STEM.
  • STEM Workshop Hosts -  interactive, 30-60 min demonstrations for small groups of approximately 25 girls in any of the STEM fields to provide hands on exposure to different fields of STEM.
  • Career Roadmap Workshop Hosts - Speakers to provide the girls with advice on undergraduate/graduate admissions, funding/scholarships, networking (ie LinkedIn, resume), and internship/research experience in small groups of 25 in an interactive workshop setting.
  • Volunteers -  run the day-of-event and ensure event success by keeping the event on schedule and encouraging the girls to network by practicing networking by example throughout the day. Join us and practice your networking skills!
  • Sponsors - as a non profit, we rely on our wonderful network of sponsor support.  If you are interested in joining our network of sponsors, we offer visibility to event participants and to our network of STEM leaders, and have event day options through event attendance or booth opportunities. Additional brand visibility options include, event marketing, promotional and program materials.
Annual sponsor funding options include, breakfast, luncheon, awards ceremony, promotional and program materials, and student transportation services.  Experience opportunities are also highly valuable to our participants. Suggestions include:  internship or mentorship opportunities, scholarships, and company tours or STEM demonstrations for one or more of our participants.
We hope you join us and DARE to DREAM of the possibilities of a diverse and innovative future through a collaborative effort to provide opportunities for students to envision themselves as future leaders in STEM!
